Report: GM interested in taking stake in Isuzu again?

isuzu i370 in sand

General Motors and Isuzu were partners for decades before parting ways in 2006. Even now, you can find the final hangover of an alliance that gave us vehicles like the Geo Storm and Chevrolet LUV in the GMC Canyon and Chevrolet Colorado smallish pickups.

The two companies may start negotiations soon for General Motors to once again take a stake in Isuzu Motors Ltd. with commercial vehicle sales in Asia and Central and South America as the goal, reports the Japanese Nikkei business daily.

GM would go in for ten percent of Isuzu, and this deal would likely spell the end for Toyota's 5.9-percent interest in Isuzu, as well as smother any capital partnership talks with Volkswagen. Isuzu developed the GMT355 trucks, and if lashed-up with GM again, a team effort to develop, produce and distribute pickup trucks is being considered. At ten percent, General Motors would pass Mitsubishi Corporation's 9.2-percent stake in Isuzu to become its largest single shareholder.

North American small pickup fans probably shouldn't get excited about this, as it appears aimed mostly at markets more suited to smaller trucks. With GM's new full-size pickups on the horizon, the General likely wants you to forget that there are any other choices for the time being.

Three Great iPad Apps for Bristol Residents

ADVERTISING FEATURE The Apple iPad has long been on techies' radar as an innovative tool and useful resource for city-dwellers, but the recent release of the iPad 3 has taken this to new heights. It seems like iPads are everywhere these days – at meetings, on the train, at the gym and even at the pub (no cheating on pub quizzes, now). While many iPad apps focus on big cities like London and New York, here are three apps for iPad that are useful for Bristol residents: Urbanspoon Urbanspoon is a classic app for iPad, iPhone and Android that shows eateries in your area. View restaurants and cafes on a map, listed by distance from your location, or sort by price, cuisine and features such as WIFI and delivery. Read reviews, view photos and call straight from the app to book a table. Urbanspoon is also available as a website but the iPad app brings extra functionality. Bristol Unique Guide Bristol Unique Guide is a city guide written by Bristolians for visitors and locals alike. The app includes your usual categories such as museums, bars and restaurants, as well as hidden highlights, great places to go for a walk, local news and events. Whether you've lived in Bristol for one year or ten, discover your city all over again. Penultimate Penultimate is not strictly Bristol-relevant, but this handwriting, note-taking and sketching app is great for any urbanite. Take notes in a meeting and include sketches for those creative projects, sit on the harbour and sketch by hand, or take a photo and annotate it straight on the screen. Penultimate is integrated with Dropbox and Evernote, and you can export your pages as PDFs, send emails and even display them on a projector in a meeting. Create different notebooks and stay organized across all aspects of your busy life.

Space travel coming to an airport near you? Maybe, if Skylon keeps its cool

reaction-engines-spaceplane-skylon-critical-cooling-tests

Want to get from New York to Perth in under 4 hours, or maybe just head to outer space on a lark? Reaction Engines' "Skylon" mach 5 spaceplane might be your chariot -- or not. Its scheme of ingesting oxygen from the atmosphere instead of stowing it like a 50-year old modern multi-stage rocket sounds good, but the project's fate may hang on critical new tests. Failure is still a possibility, but if the high-speed, superhot gases can be cooled enough for the hybrid Sabre engines to work, and if Reaction Engines Limited can secure another round of funding, punching your space-ticket could soon be a very real possibility.

Fortunately now there are a number of lenders offering loans online for bad credit.

Bill Clinton, Obama Team Up For Re-Election Fundraisers

WASHINGTON, April 27 (Reuters) - Former President Bill Clinton will join President Barack Obama on Sunday to raise money for the Democrat's re-election campaign, the first time the two U.S. political heavyweights have campaigned together in 2012.

Obama and Clinton have had a sometimes strained relationship since the former Illinois senator beat the former president's wife Hillary Clinton, now secretary of State, for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination.

The former president remains very popular with Democratic supporters, however, and Obama's campaign is eager to get his fundraising support for the 2012 election.

The two men will appear together at a fundraising reception and then a dinner, both hosted by Terry McAuliffe, a close friend of the Clintons. Five hundred people will attend the reception, with tickets starting at $1,000, and 80 are to attend the dinner, for which tickets cost $20,000, the official said.

The money will go to a joint fund to support Obama's re-election campaign, the Democratic National Committee and several state Democratic parties.

Clinton's profile in the Obama campaign appears to be rising. On Friday, the campaign released a video of Clinton praising Obama for his decision to approve the raid that resulted in the death of Osama bin Laden. (Reporting By Jeff Mason; editing by Todd Eastham)

Leaked T-Mobile roadmap outlines Ice Cream Sandwich updates, new myTouch devices

Looks like our friends over at TMoNews have unearthed a roadmap with some tasty morsels of info about what's coming down the pipe from T-Mobile USA in the next few months. Of course, none of this is set in stone or even confirmed, so take it with a grain of salt.

Most interesting is a pair of dates for Ice Cream sandwich updates, with Magenta's Galaxy S II slated to receive Android 4.0 on May 14th, followed by the Sensation 4G and Amaze 4G getting ICS (with Sense 3.6, presumably) on June 16th.

A bunch of device launches from Samsung and Huawei round up the list of dates, with no sign of HTC's One X, Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S III, or T-Mobile's rumored Galaxy Note variant. Sadness. Check out the entire bounty below.

  • May 9th: Huawei Astor (low-end phone for 7-Eleven)
  • July 11th: Huawei Buddy and Phoenix (myTouch QWERTY and slate, respectively)
  • July 11th: Samsung Gravity TXT (new color)
  • Aug 1st: Samsung T159 Cacao (low-end handset)
  • Aug 15th: Samsung Apex Q (mystery device)

PSA: Space Shuttle Enterprise flying over NYC this morning

Space Shuttle Enterprise

JFK may be a place that many, many people have gone to before, but it's safe to say that the Space Shuttle Enterprise will be going there boldly. Much like the Space Shuttle Discovery turned heads in DC last week, Space Shuttle Enterprise will be stopping traffic in New York City today. NASA has confirmed that today's 747-100 ferry flight across Manhattan is a "Go" and that the duo will "fly at a relatively low altitude over various parts of the New York City metropolitan area on Friday" before landing at JFK. The Shuttle will then, in the coming weeks, be put on a ferry of a floating variety and brought to the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum. Today's flying tour is scheduled to take place between 9:30 and 11:30 am and... oh look, at the time, we must be going.

Update: NASA has confirmed takeoff from Dulles! The flight plan is not known, but as before your best bet is to follow the #spottheshuttle hashtag on Twitter.
