Since Christmas became a commercial affair, the throwaway element of our 'all things fake and beautiful' society is a massive contradiction to our supposedly eco-conscious one. Most Christmas decorations are decidedly ecologically unfriendly - tinsel takes approximately 100 years to break down. Here is a shocking thought: your local landfill has tinsel dating back to your childhood slowly rotting in it.
